Challenge

Bosch security systems offer solutions with pre-installed connections in it, which is tested once before it’s made available for sale. Now when they have sold the solution they had to make sure its working and there is no loss in connectivity.
Bosch security due to its nature of business has to keep track of where the said device is installed so they can troubleshoot in case of any issues. Now to keep track of more than 10,000 devices is a hard thing if you do not have any reference against devices.
Bosch needed a solution where they can add information against each connection about its specific location and could see at a single glance if it’s working or not.

Solution

ZIN Technologies offered such a solution where the customer can add or view information in the form of labels in connection listing using Porthos. Connection listing list all connections for the customer account and also for any of the child account connections to which they have access.
Connection list display Network ID and connection number for each connection. It also has an option that allows a customer to add up to 4 different labels against each connection as a reference, as an example information such as city name, street address etc can be added in labels. Connection list also shows the specific private IP against each connection.
In addition to this it has few other columns available in it i.e Company Name (Shows name of company connection is provisioned to), Status (Shows if the connection is Cold provisioned, Active, Suspended or Terminated), Online Status (shows if the connection is online, offline or updated), Operator (Shows name of the operator the connection is for), Network (Shows if the last update was received against GSM or GPRS connectivity), Last Seen (Shows when was the connection last seen on network, either doing GSM usage or GPRS usage as shown in Network column), Price Plan Description (It tells the price plan name the connection currently on), Provisioned Date (It shows the date/time when the connection was provisioned), Billable (It tells if the given connection is billable or not, a few operators do not bill while suspended).

Results

TSince Bosch started using the solution offered by ZIN Technologies, they believe it has become really easy for them to track connections and troubleshoot any issues. Because of a real-time caching feature of the connection list, it remains updated all the time.
Even though connections on Porthos have exceeded 2 million, still connection list provides real-time information. Cache for connection list only updates the information where change occurs, therefore, it does not need to pull everything when it is loaded.
Also, Bosch easily obtains all records for connection list in the form of a custom report as well, where they can prepare a report for required columns only.
